PUNDARIKA UK 6-DAY RETREAT

1 – 7 AUGUST 2016
‘A DZOGCHEN GUIDE TO LIVING FEARLESSLY IN AN UNSETTLED WORLD’
WITH VEN TSOKNYI RINPOCHE

Dzogchen teachings take us to the central core of the Buddhadharma.  They deal with the essence of our mind and our true nature when our neuroses and habitual patterns are stripped away.   They are suitable for everyone, whatever our spiritual path.  For new people, come and find out how to achieve a state of inner peace and freedom.  For Rinpoche’s long-time students, he himself says you can never receive pointing out instructions too many times:  each time more clarity can be realised.  You are also invited to let me have any topics on which you would like clarification which I will pass on to Rinpoche.

Participation is open to all, but involves the obligation to be present for the whole 6 days.  You are encouraged to stay onsite if possible.  As usual, this will be a silent retreat in order to help us absorb the teachings.

Here is all the information you’ll need to book this year’s retreat.   You’ll need to confirm you’ve read this when you book online.

Venue and Accommodation

We have an exciting new venue this year – Kingswood Senior School, Bath BA1 5RG.   The school, which is on Bath’s northern slopes, has spacious grounds with plenty of quiet space and countryside walks for outdoor meditation.  It’s 30 minutes’ walk into Bath and there is a bus.  Registration will take place from 2 pm on the 1st August, and we will finish by 10.30 on the 7th August.

The halls of residence are around the edge of the campus, a pleasant 5 minute walk through the grounds.   If you are booking a twin room you can arrange to share with someone you know, otherwise we’ll choose for you.   Most of the dormitories are on the 2nd and 3rd floor.  Meals are all vegetarian.  When booking you can select vegan or gluten free options.

We will operate a bursary fund this year, giving people an opportunity to make a voluntary contribution to help towards the retreat fees for those less well off.  There will be an opportunity to apply for a bursary when booking.

Cancellation Policy:

16 April – 15 May  –  refund less £50
16 May – 30 June –   less £100
1 July – 1 August – refund less £200

Unlike many retreat centres we don’t expect everyone to have a job at the retreat, but we do rely on volunteers to help things run smoothly.  I’m therefore inviting everyone who would like to offer their help in some way, whether they’ve helped in the past or not, to contact me.   Please specify if you have previously been involved in helping, and if you have any preferences.  Also include your address and phone number.   The usual areas where we need help are:

leading meditation sessions, driving (if you bring a car), serving tea during teachings, helping in the shop,  lifting and carrying/arranging rooms for different events, house warden, tidying up, looking after the shrine, shrine hall, or just being available when needed!

Please also let us know if you have any specific skills you’d like to offer.  Here is a brilliant short clip from Khandro Rinpoche on the importance of Karma Yoga for all practitioners.

Travel:

If driving please get directions from one of the websites like AA Routefinder.   Trains from London Paddington to Bath Spa run every half hour, then it’s a 15 minute bus journey (more details in the pre-retreat letter).  There are flights to Bristol Airport (from where there is a bus to Bath, runs every half hour) from many places in Europe – the earlier you book the better.  (Easyjet, BMI, Monarch, and several others, look on Bristolairport.co.uk/where)
