Pundarika UK Meets £25,000 Education Fund Target

19th_July_2013_055At last year’s Easter Retreat Rinpoche asked us to help fund running costs for the Tsoknyi Gechak School for young nuns.
In particular, the school director, Fionnuala Shenpen, wanted to have the staff trained to Western standards – the cost of which was considerable. So we set up the Education Fund to help with this as well as providing educational materials and help with staff costs.

The school aims to combine traditional dharma teaching with a high standard of western-style education, enabling the girls to play their part in the modern world if they later decide not to remain in the monastery.
School Director Fionnuala Shenpen was delighted by the news. “Well done UK Sangha – I knew you could do it!,” she said. “On behalf all of us here, thank you most sincerely for all your efforts. I hope we can continue to work together in the coming year. With lots of love and gratitude from all of us at TGS.”
Pundarika UK Director Carole Bishop added: “I’m very happy that sangha members have been so generous in supporting the excellent work being done at Tsoknyi Gechak School, which is one of Rinpoche’s heart projects.”
As part of the fund-raising effort Pundarika UK provided Merit Tins in which members could collect their £2 or £1 coins. The Trustees have asked that you only bring them back to Bruton once they are full – no need to bring partly filled ones.
