Tsoknyi Rinpoche has posted an online video message for his students to mark Tibetan New Year, or Losar, which starts on Monday February 27th this year.
In his message – recorded in Taiwan – Rinpoche speaks about how encouraging he finds the tukdam, or deathbed meditation, of the master Dorzong Rinpoche, who recently passed away. It provides physical evidence of the effects of practice, he says, and he encourages all of his students to focus on practice in the year ahead.
The year ahead in the Tibetan calendar is Firebird Year 2144. It is said to be associated with recreation and celebration.
The first 15 days of Losar are said to represent the days on which Buddha displayed miracles. Merit is multiplied 100,000 times during this period, so practice is emphasised.
Losar tashi delek, Rinpoche!
